Establishing a Pro-Business Environment

Brunei Darussalam’s national vision, Wawasan 2035, envisages the long-term development of the nation into a dynamic and sustainable economy by the year 2035, aiming to be among the top 10 nations worldwide in terms of GDP per capita.

With a target of over 60% GDP contribution from the non-Oil and Gas sectors, Brunei Darussalam is placing focus on attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) as well as strengthening and growing local businesses to stimulate entrepreneurial activities and GDP growth.

To support these efforts in growing the non-oil and gas sectors, Brunei Darussalam has embarked upon an ambitious reform agenda to establish a business-friendly environment that nurtures local entrepreneurs and attracts foreign investment, by inspiring confidence in doing business in Brunei Darussalam.

This commitment towards creating a business-friendly environment has seen Brunei Darussalam recognized by the World Bank as the most improved economy in the world for two consecutive years.

Continuous efforts to improve the ease of doing business in the country have led to Brunei Darussalam jumping 25 places in the World Bank's Doing Business Report 2017 to be ranked #72 worldwide, #13 in the Asia-Pacific, #4 in ASEAN and #1 most improved economy in the world.
